The Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium (UTIC) has announced the second annual UTIC Scholarship challenge winners.
Five undergraduate and five graduate students were each awarded $5,000 scholarships from the Middletown-based company to support their studies of undersea technology and related fields.
“Advancements in undersea technology are critical to addressing challenges in climate change, national security, and the global economy. Technology innovation to address these challenges depends on a focused workforce adept at recognizing and developing current and future solutions,” said UTIC’s Chief Executive Officer Molly Donohue Magee in a statement included within a press release. “This year’s UTIC Scholarship winners embody the potential of the undersea tech workforce’s next generation. Congratulations to the ten selected winners; UTIC is proud to support their continued studies and looks forward to seeing their contributions shape the future of undersea tech.”
UTIC promotes the rapid development, prototyping, and commercialization of innovative undersea and maritime defense projects. The Consortium represents a united undersea and maritime industry voice, breaking down barriers to growth by identifying and integrating undersea and maritime technology resources and opportunities, and providing the environment to collaborate on innovative solutions.
Applicants were reviewed based on their academic transcripts, resumes, employment history, volunteer work, honors and awards, essays, and letters of recommendation.

Launched in 2023, UTIC’s scholarship program is part of an ongoing effort by the organization to promote workforce development and education in undersea technology and defense.
Last month, over 200 UTIC members completed a free professional development course on the Principals of Sonar, Underwater Sound and Undersea Systems hosted in collaboration with the University of Rhode Island’s College of Engineering and Raytheon, an RTX business. In the fall of 2023, UTIC facilitated an international prize challenge among academic institutions who submitted their proposals for supporting and preparing the next generation’s workforce for the ever-changing landscape of undersea defense.
