The Puddingstone new music series continues this summer with two live performances following February’s sold-out concert at Gardiner House in Newport. Like previous concerts, these performances will combine performing and non-performing arts in an approachable, 19th century-style salon.
Saturday, June 22 at 5:30pm “Harmonies in Motion” at Newport Art Museum (76 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI)
Pianist extraordinaire, Angela Kim is returning to Newport, this time with violinist, Clara Kim. The program includes Bach’s Sonata for Violin and Keyboard No. 6, a piece by Grammy winner, Jesse Montgomery, Prokofiev’s profound Sonata No. 1 as well as a piece composed for the duo by one of today’s most celebrated contemporary composers, Molly Heron. A live dance performance will translate the harmonies into motion.
Angela Kim has been praised by international press as “a pianist who meets the highest standard of technique,” showing her versatility through colorful imagination, and intense musical expression. As a sought-after pedagogue, Ms. Kim was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame in Spring 2023. Currently Ms. Kim is an Associate Professor of Piano, and Director of Keyboard Area at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. In 2022-2023, Ms. Kim has served as a Visiting Professor of Piano at the Eastman School of Music.
One of the leading performers of her generation, Clara Kim performs regularly and loves connecting with audiences, people, and communities across the world. Her significant engagements include performances at Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Merkin Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. Ms. Kim is a winner of the Cremona Solo Violin Competition as well as Concert Artists Guild Competitions as a member of the Argus Quartet.

Sunday, August 25 at 3:00pm “Families in Motion” at St. Columba’s Chapel (55 Vaucluse Ave, Middletown, RI)
Puddingstone is presenting its first family and children’s event at with an exciting range of music, dance, and acrobatic performance. Weather permitting, this will be both outside and inside on the beautiful grounds of St. Columba’s as well as in the Parish Hall. Puddingstone performance veterans “Ears of Steel” John Lindsay (saxophone), award-winning Rubin brother, Colescott Rubin (bass & unicycle) and Katie Moorhead (dance) will join Puddingstone founder and pianist, Clemens Teufel, to serenade and entertain all ages. There will be unicycling, a dance workshop as well as a sing-along and instrument petting-zoo. This is sure to be a joyful event filled with arts and laughter.
