The U.S. Congressional delegation announced funding of $1,482,715 to support AmeriCorps programs in the Providence and Woonsocket areas. The funding will be split between TerraCorps and the Woonsocket Neighborhood Development Corporation.

TerraCorps is an environmental nonprofit organization with a mission of land protection and stewardship. Their work focuses on sustainable farming, food justice, and land and water conservation. The They will use $300,000 in federal funding to expand their capacity by developing new systems, delivering training, and managing volunteers in dozens of communities throughout Rhode Island. The goal is to increase the scale, reach, efficiency, or effectiveness of seven community nonprofits, and train or educate an estimated 1,248 individuals on environmental stewardship.

The Woonsocket Neighborhood Development Corporation will use $293,000 in federal funding to deliver housing stabilization services to low-income households. They will provide housing assistance to 3,825 low-income Rhode Islanders in need of help staying in or transitioning into safe, healthy, and affordable rental units.

The funds are coming from the federal AmeriCorps State and National Grant Competition. In total, 12 AmeriCorps members will be supported by the grants. State AmeriCorps service commission, ServeRI, will receive an additional $889,813 in funding to support additional AmeriCorps members in the coming months.
