A pair of senior naval officials have been awarded for their work on advancing the development of torpedo and other undersea warfare technology.
Jason Gomez, chief technology officer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport, received the Vice Adm. Charles B. Martell-David Bushnell Award for his work on the Contender Program and the Underwater Express and Blue Wolf programs.

The Contender Program is transitioning into a new heavyweight torpedo program that will focus on long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare capabilities. The success of the Underwater Express program led to the creation of the Blue Wolf program, which is advancing long-range torpedo and other unmanned underwater vehicle capabilities.
Robert Koch, senior technologist at the Division Newport, received the Vice Adm. Charles E. Weakley Award for his work on acoustic and non-acoustic signature control techniques for undersea tactical stealth systems. Koch has spent more than three decades at the Division Newport.

The U.S. Navy said Koch has distinguished himself for his “superb technical contributions and leadership as a widely recognized technical authority in tactical stealth systems in USW.”
The awards were announced Monday.
