A new event is coming to Fort Adams State Park on April 14th, and it’s time for the community to come together and give back to their environment. The event is a collaboration between Sail Newport and Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA), the two organizations dedicated to protecting Narragansett Bay.
The cleanup will run from 12 pm to 2 pm, and the volunteers will help remove winter debris from the shore. All ages are invited, and volunteers will be given gloves, pickers, and bags to help them do their part. Those interested in helping are required to register in advance, so they can meet at Sail Newport at 72 Fort Adams Drive.
The event is a great way for individuals and families to come together and make a positive impact on the environment. Removing litter and debris from the beaches helps to preserve the health of ocean ecosystems and prevents harm to marine life. It also raises awareness about the impacts of waste on our oceans and encourages individuals to adopt more sustainable practices.

Sail Newport and ORCA (Ocean Recovery Community Alliance) will join forces to host a coastline cleanup at Fort Adams State Park on Sunday, April 14, from 12 Noon – 2:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help remove winter debris from the shore.
“As sailors, we’re committed to preserving a healthy ocean, starting with our coastline. We encourage anyone from the community to help on Cleanup Day as we work together to clean the beautiful Fort Adams State Park that we are so fortunate to use for public access to Narragansett Bay,” says Sail Newport Event Manager Nikki Raccio.
The two nonprofit organizations will supply gloves, pickers, and bags for volunteers. All ages are invited to the event. Volunteers will meet at Sail Newport, 72 Fort Adams Drive. People who would like to help are asked to register online at sailnewport.org.
“Beach cleanups are vital because they protect marine life, preserve coastal ecosystems, and mitigate pollution. Removing litter and debris from beaches, safeguards the health of ocean habitats, prevents harm to wildlife through ingestion or entanglement, and promotes cleaner environments for both humans and marine organisms. Additionally, beach cleanups raise awareness about the impacts of waste on our oceans, inspiring individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices and advocate for policies that promote environmental conservation,” says Kevin Carmignani, ORCA.
