The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) provided today’s weekly update on the Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2 project.

Starting Friday night, April 5 at 5 p.m. through Monday morning, April 8 at 7 a.m., extended weekend left lane closures are scheduled on both Route 138 East and West, between the Pell Bridge and JT Connell Highway overpass. This will allow us to remove and replace the center median.

Next week, we’ll have a right lane closure for landscaping and sign work on Route 138 East, from the Pell Bridge to the JT Connell Connector Road, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll also have a right lane closure on JT Connell Highway South, from the Route 138 overpass to the Van Zandt intersection during the same time period for sidewalk and curb work. We’ll also clean and reshape the drainage swale along the JT Connell Highway/JT Connell Connector corner, continue landscaping improvements throughout the project area, and make utility adjustments prior to final paving expected to begin early next month.

According to the project page on RIDOT’s website, the following is the projected schedule and cost;

  • Start Phase 1 Construction: 2020
  • Finish Phase 1 Construction: 2021 | ($10.9 million) focus on the reconstruction of JT Connell Highway and Coddington Highway
  • Start Phase 2 Construction: 2021 | ($74 million) focuses on the ramp interchange itself
  • Finish Phase 2 Construction: 2024
  • Total Projected Cost: $84.9 Million
  • Detours Needed: TBD
