Officials from the City of Newport will announce on Monday, March 11, that it will offer free rideshare services via Uber following the annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16, 2024.
Newport Police and Fire Chiefs, City Councilors, and Strategic Prevention Partnership will announce “Ride the Wave,” an initiative to protect people at risk of impaired driving.
The free voucher can be used for outbound directions only from downtown Newport from 1 p.m. on March 16 to 2 a.m. on March 17. It is not intended for inbound direction use.

With Newport’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade just days away, we’re excited to be teaming up with Strategic Prevention Partners, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Uber, and our Police and Fire Departments to offer FREE RIDESHARE VOUCHERS to anyone who needs a safe way home this Saturday.
Be sure to look for the Ride the Wave logo and QR Code for your free $25 voucher, good for the afternoon and evening of Saturday, March 16th. Establishments up and down the parade route will be using Ride the Wave coasters and signage will be posted for easy scanning.
The free vouchers will be good for outbound directions only, with departures taking place from downtown Newport beginning at 1 p.m. on March 16 until to 2 a.m. on March 17.
Newport Saint Patrick’s Day Parade
The 68th Annual Newport Saint Patrick’s Day Parade will be held, rain, snow, or shine, on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
The Parade will begin promptly at 11:00 am in front of Newport City Hall and will proceed to Carroll Avenue at Saint Augustin’s Church.
The parade this year is estimated to last 2 hours and will include Pipe Bands, Marching Bands, Fife & Drum Corps, Clown Units, reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits.
