The Rhode Island Department of State announced that it will hold a series of workshops to increase accessibility of government data and resources and promote transparency in government.

The workshops will be held during Sunshine Week, an annual recognition of the importance of accessible, open government resources. The series will focus on four main topics: public laws, elections and voter turnout, open government and lobbying, and business services data hub.

The public laws, bill searching, and the state library workshop will demonstrate how to research public laws in Rhode Island and use the state library’s resources to access government information. The elections and voter turnout workshop will cover how to use the voter turnout tracker during an election cycle, and historical voting information such as voting method and demographic information. The open government and lobbying workshop will provide an overview of the state’s open government resources, including the open meetings portal, the lobby tracker tool, and contact information for government officials. The workshop on the business services data hub will offer an overview of the state’s business data hub, which collects interactive tools to explore business data collected by the state department of state. This workshop will also cover how to use the corporate database to find details about a particular business or non-profit.

The workshops will be recorded and held virtually via Zoom. Those interested can learn more about each workshop and register here.
