PROVIDENCE – Farm Fresh Rhode Island, which works to build a local food system that values the environment, health, and quality of life of farmers and consumers in New England, has announced a new partnership with DoorDash that provides support for the nonprofit’s culinary job training program.
As part of its Community Credits program, DoorDash will donate $2,500 in gift cards to support Farm Fresh Rhode Island’s Harvest Kitchen culinary training program participants, local young people ages 16-19 involved with the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). These donated gift cards will provide increased support to program participants outside of the culinary program hours.
Launched in 2021, the Community Credits program distributes DoorDash gift cards directly to nonprofit organizations to empower the communities they serve, reduce food insecurity, and expand initiatives that provide access to opportunity. By giving local organizations these resources, DoorDash enables nonprofit partners to do more of what matters: supporting the area’s most vulnerable populations.
“Harvest Kitchen provides meaningful experiences and equips trainees with lifelong knowledge and workplace skills,” said Sean Kontos, Program Director for the Harvest Kitchen. “We are thrilled to partner with DoorDash to increase access to healthy food for our youth participants outside of program hours.”
Along with this new partnership, DoorDash has previously partnered with the City of Pawtucket, along with mayors in 18 cities across the United States, to reduce food insecurity as part of its commitment in support of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.
“Supporting the incredible programs like Harvest Kitchen is at the heart of our Community Credits program,” said Christina Kennedy, Sr. Manager of Government Affairs in New England for DoorDash. “We are proud to collaborate with Farm Fresh Rhode Island, and hope that providing them with the resources and tools they need will help young people in need across Rhode Island thrive.”
These collaborations build on DoorDash’s ongoing work to broaden food access, including its Project DASH initiative, which supports food banks and pantries, community action agencies, and other social impact organizations. Partnerships like these enable thousands of meal deliveries to area residents in need, offering a variety of nutritious groceries to help improve food access and community health.
