Lila Delman Real Estate has announced the recent sale of ’Midcliff’. The property, located at 229 Ruggles Avenue in Newport, reportedly sold for $6,200,000.

According to Lila Delman Real Estate, Shari Dailey and Kate Leonard, Lila Delman Sales Associates, along with Kendra Toppa, Lila Delman’s Newport Sales Manager, represented the seller. John Hodnett, President/Broker-Owner of Lila Delman, represented the buyer.

Neither the seller or buyer were identified by Lila Delman Real Estate.

This transaction marks the second highest residential sale in Newport this year, and the third highest statewide, according to data maintained by the Rhode Island Statewide MLS. Year-to-date, Lila Delman has participated in 4 out of Newport’s top 5 single-family home sales, having represented both buyers and sellers in these transactions. No other firm has participated in more than one of these top sales.*

“It’s an exciting year and an exciting time at Lila Delman Real Estate for both our clients and our associates,” commented Kendra Toppa in a prepared statement. “It’s truly gratifying to see everyone’s hard work making such a large impact in today’s market.”

“Finding and working with clients who accept the stewardship and unique challenges of estates that have not been offered for sale in years is considered an exciting gift to our company, our community, and us,” added Shari Dailey and Kate Leonard in a statement. “Lila Delman Real Estate has been recognized for historic preservation and this sale has allowed us to become a greater part of Newport’s mission for preservation.”

“Collaboration and communication were the two key elements that lead to this successful closing on such a significant, historic property,” added John Hodnett. “I commend Shari, Kate, & Kendra on their tireless efforts throughout the process; it was a pleasure all around.”

‘Midcliff’, the iconic oceanfront estate, lies along 2 acres of Newport’s famed Cliff Walk, with over 180 feet of frontage and views of the Preservation Society’s gilded mansions. Designed in 1886 in the Queen Anne Victorian style by Peabody & Stearns, the property includes twelve bedrooms and ten and one half bathrooms across the main residence and the carriage house. The opportunity to acquire a historic property in such a coveted location is rare, presenting an attractive offering for a buyer to restore the estate to its former elegance.
