I can tell you first-hand that planning a wedding sounds much easier than it actually is. With my own wedding planning well underway for a June 2020 walk down the aisle in Newport, I asked my friends at Blackstone Caterers to share some of their tips for planning a wedding in and around Newport.

Here’s what they came up with;

1 – Set a Budget (and stick to it)

Couples can run into issues when the final checks to write can be daunting. Make a budget sheet and try to stick to your bottom line because seeing the final numbers leading up to the day can be daunting.

2 – Get Organized

Purchase a wedding planning book or binder, create excel sheets for guest list/RSVP/shower gifts/vendor list, make to-do lists each month of what needs to be accomplished, and set up meetings ahead of time if you know you’re traveling from out of town.

3 – Consider a Wedding Planner

Help with planning throughout the process (invitations, shower, hotel boxes, etc.) and especially help with every vendor on-site to work cohesively

4 – Create a Priorities List

Make a list of what are priorities to you and your fiancé, such as food, photographer, flowers, etc. and rank each one you want to put more energy or money into so your wedding reflects you as a couple.

5 – Limit Your DIY Projects

These can take so much time not only during the planning process, but even the day of (such as centerpieces, signage, cake/desserts, etc.). Most of the time, it is worth it to hire professionals to take care of the bigger projects.

Happy Wedding Planning!
