Child & Family has announced that Betsy Akin has been selected as the new Vice President of Fund Development for the Middletown-based organization.
Akin will plan and execute a comprehensive development plan to support the programs and services that reach more than 6,000 individuals annually in Rhode Island.
“Betsy will bring to us a wealth of experience in fund development, expertise in corporate strategic partnerships, special events and volunteer management and communications. Akin is an authentic, mission driven professional with a proven track record in the nonprofit industry and commitment to social justice,” stated Marty Sinnott, President & CEO of Child & Family in a news release.
Akin recently was the Director of Development for Amnesty International and prior to this appointment, she had spent more than 14 years at the March of Dimes Foundation, where she held the dual roles of Director of the New England Collaborative and the Rhode Island State Executive Director.
According to Child & Family, Betsy will focus on expanding the interrelationship between community engagement, fund development and messaging to increase resources and raise awareness of all aspects of the organization’s work and its mission to support thousands of children, teens, families and elders each year through multiple programs and services. Betsy calls Portsmouth home.
Established in downtown Newport in 1866, Child & Family recently celebrated its 150th anniversary of serving children and families throughout Rhode Island.
