45th Annual Christmas in Newport Candlelight Tour of Historic Private Homes

4-7 p.m. Maps available at the Newport Visitor Information Center in mid-December. $3 per house, payable at the door of each house, different houses open each day of tour. 401-741-5920. No advance reservations are necessary.

Rogues & Scoundrels History Walking Tour

11 a.m., departs from the Museum at the Brick Market at 127 Thames St., Newport Historical Society. See where scoundrels lived, pirates profited and criminals were punished. Find out why this colony was known as “Rogue’s Island.” Reservations required, 841-8770. $15 per person, $10 for NHS members and active duty military with ID, $5 children ages 5-12. Tickets can be purchased at the tour departure point. Weather permitting.

7 p.m. Join RI’s most award-winning comedy troupe as they present a show for the whole family during school vacation. The Bit Players hit the stage with their hilarious improv comedy show full of larger than life characters, hysterical musical numbers, and the quickest wit you’ll ever see. The show will be an hour and is BYOB for adults. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $10/adult, $5/child! Show will start at 7:00pm, doors will open at 6:30pm. Laugh More.

Newport Polar Bear Plunge & Atlantic Beach Club After-Party

Every New Year’s Day for charity the Newport Polar Bears invite anyone crazy enough to join them for a swim in the Frosty North Atlantic Ocean. The charity this year is as last year, A Wish Come True. All proceeds from the swim and at the after swim party at the Atlantic Beach Club at the east end of Easton’s Beach. Come join us at noon and help us raise money for a great charity.

New Year’s Day BYOB Brunch

10am – 4pm. Welcome in the New Year Cru Cafe Style. This brunch menu will not dissappoint and will include some CRU favorites and exciting New Year’s creations by Executive Chef Brandon! Get your BYOB on and welcome in 2016 with their mimosa kit. Last Few Days To Visit Newport and Her Southern Sisters: Three Centuries of Art and Design

From never-before-seen ball gowns to portraits, silver and furniture, the exhibition at Rosecliff will shed new light on Newport as a vibrant cultural crossroad over 300 years. It will tell the story in four chronological chapters: the colonial period, the antebellum period, post-Civil War & Gilded Age, and early 20th century. Objects and costumes on display will come from several Preservation Society properties, as well as loans from the private collections of families with ties to both Newport and the South. www.newportmansions.org
