IYRS School of Technology and Trades recently hosted the 3rd Annual Mastering the Craft Summer Series Roundtable in Newport, RI.  The roundtable discussion, which shined the spotlight on the importance of the work and accomplishments of a variety of craftspeople and technicians, provided attendees insight into the worlds of esteemed makers and craftspeople.

Roundtable discussion topics centered around the biggest threat to craftsmanship, the digital age in the workplace, and staying relevant as a craftsman. The following craftspeople were among the roundtable participants:

o   Warren Barker, Senior Instructor, IYRS School of Boatbuilding & Restoration

o   Jeffrey Greene, Owner, the Ball and Claw (Fine Furniture-Making) in Newport, RI

o   Eric Goetz, Founder, Goetz Composites

o   Richard “Chip” Benson, Builder and Restoration Expert

Ryan Belmore is the owner and publisher of What's Up Newp. He took over the publication in 2012 and has grown it into a three-time Rhode Island Monthly Best Local News Blog (2018, 2019, 2020). He was named LION Publishers Member of the Year in 2020 and received the Dominique Award from the Arts & Cultural Society of Newport County the same year.
