10 –  Stamp Act Protest 250th Anniversary Reenactment

During this free afternoon reenactment on August 29th (1pm-5pm), meet costumed interpreters as they bring the heart of colonial Newport to life. Events include craft demonstrations, an upper class ladies tea and children’s games; reenactments include an effigy demonstration, much like the 1765 Stamp Act protest, a ransacking of the Newport Historical Society’s house museum and street theater in front of the Colony House. Presented by the Newport Historical Society.

11- Watch Sailing From Fort Adams

The Museum of Yachting 36th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta (September 5th & 6th) will draw a fleet that stands as a time capsule of classic design – from small traditional one-designs to large, majestic yachts built over a century ago. Head to the North lawn or West Road at Fort Adams State Park and enjoy the view!  MORE INFO

Now in its fourth edition, the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup (September 12 – 19) hosts top yacht clubs from around the world competing on a level playing field. The Invitational Cup is raced in one-design NYYC Swan 42s, which are identically tuned and equipped with supplied sails. Racing is over five days on Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound.

12. Newport Gallery Night

Newport Gallery Night on September 10th encourages those who might not regularly go to an art gallery, museum or cultural institution to participate in the monthly free shows in the numerous member galleries, museums and cultural institutions. MORE INFO

13. RI Antique Fire Apparatus Society Annual Show

A display of antique motorized fire apparatus and other fire memorabilia will be on display at Glen Park in Portsmouth on September 20th from 10am – 3pm. MORE INFO

14. Free Preservation Society Of Newport County Tours

The Preservation Society of Newport County is offering all Newport residents and their families to enjoy all regularly scheduled tours of the Newport Mansions for free in 2015. Any resident member of your family is welcome to enjoy any regular tour, any day of the week, just by showing proof of City of Newport residency at the ticket station at any one of the Newport Mansions. Free admission for Newport residents is available at The Breakers, The Elms, Marble House, and Green Animals Topiary Garden.

15. Visit The Coronet

Coronet is a 131-foot Schooner Yacht which was first launched in 1885, and she was one of the most elegant sailing yachts of her day. She was designed for crossing the ocean in style, featuring a marble staircase, stained glass doors, mahogany paneled staterooms, and a piano in the main salon. Since 1995, she has been on the campus of the IYRS in Newport, RI under restoration. In 2006, Coronet Restoration Partners purchased the project and has continued progress on a full restoration. The project is open to the public and can be visited on the IYRS campus. MORE INFO
