The Rhode Island National Organization for Women (RI NOW) has announced their endorsement of Dawn Euer in the Special Election for the open senate seat in District 13, representing Jamestown and Newport. The endorsement is the first endorsement officially issued by any group for the upcoming special election.
RI NOW President Rebecca Kislak said: “We are pleased to endorse our former board member Dawn Euer, and are thrilled she is running to represent Newport and Jamestown in Senate District 13. Dawn has proven results for positive change in her community and across Rhode Island. She shares our vision and we know she will represent her constituents well!”
RI NOW seeks to ensure that women are able to participate fully in private and public life by working for economic equity, reproductive health and justice, LGBT civil rights, and working to stop violence against women and end racism.
There are currently four democrats (David Allard, Dawn Euer, John Florez and David Hanos) and one republican (Michael Smith) who have announced that they will run for the seat that Teresa Paiva Weed filled for 22 years. The four democrats will face off in a primary on Tuesday, July 18th and there will be a special election between the remaining democrat and republican on Tuesday, August 22nd.
What’sUpNewp will host a candidate forum on Monday, July 10th at the Jane Pickens Theater and Event Center.
