The Tiverton Public Library is set to host a performance of the 2024 Reading Across Rhode Island selection, “Solito,” by Javier Zamora, on Wednesday, May 22, at 6:30 pm.

The free event is open to the public, and will be held on the library’s premises at 34 Roosevelt Avenue in Tiverton.

Three local actors will take turns giving a 50-minute presentation of the story, which follows a young boy’s journey from El Salvador to the USA. The event will also include a second act, in which several of the students from the Manton Avenue Project (MAP) give their response plays. MAP students created the mini plays in response to the text of “Solito.”

The performance of “Solito” is being co-sponsored by the Tiverton Library and the Rhode Island Center for the Book as part of the statewide, one-state, one-book reading program.

Living Literature is a non-profit organization of professionals devoted to teaching literature through a unique and imaginative process. The organization was founded in January 1996, and has performed over 50 presentations based on works by 30 different authors around New England and beyond.

“Solito” is one of several books selected by a committee of local and state officials as part of the Reading Across Rhode Island program. The program is designed to promote literacy and improve access to knowledge and culture for all residents.
