The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is reminding residents and nonresidents who hold standard fishing licenses, shellfish over 65 licenses, and other licenses to renew them online by April 29, 2024. The 60-day grace period ends on that day, and there are no extensions to the validity of expired licenses.
The Rhode Island Outdoors website offers an online option for renewing licenses. To do so, users need to provide their unique Customer Identification Number (CID). Licenses can also be renewed by mail or in person at the DEM Office of Boat Registration and Licensing.
In person service is available at 235 Promenade Street, Room 360, Providence, RI, 02908, between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM. All commercial fishers must be in compliance with the Commercial Marine Harvester Logbook Program. Failure to comply may negatively affect the ability to renew the license for the 2024 fishing year. Questions regarding compliance can be directed to the DEM’s Division of Marine Fisheries’ Jamestown Office at 401-423-1923 or 401-423-1926.
Commercial fishing licenses are required for all vessels engaged in Rhode Island commercial fisheries. Applications are available online or can be obtained from the DEM’s Office of Boat Registration and Licensing.
