After several decades, Dunkin’ on Broadway in Newport is permanently closing at the end of this week.

A sign put in in the window today says “this location will be permanently closing as of Sunday, June 14th”.

A spokesperson for the franchise owner provided What’s Up Newp with the following statement on behalf of the local franchise owner;

“We can confirm that our lease agreement for the Dunkin’ located at 137 Broadway in Newport is expiring, and the store will be closing as of June 14. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our loyal guests.

“We remain fully committed to serving the Newport area, and we have offered every one of our employees at the Broadway location opportunities to maintain their regular hours at one of our neighboring locations. We encourage our local guests to visit our freshly renovated, Next Generation location at 194 Connell Highway and our additional Newport location at 7 Memorial Boulevard. Guests may also visit our Next Generation locations at 536 East Main Road and 811 West Main Road in Middletown.”

In regards to rumors circulating that Dunkin’s neighbors, Cumberland Farms, have purchased the property and has expansion plans, Cumberland Farms tells What’s Up Newp  “no comment”.

For those wondering where the popular and charming Hank Lawler will go, who has worked at this Dunkin’ location for more than thirty years, he confirms on social media that he’s not retiring, “My Journey has Not End, I’ll be Back on Memorial Blvd”.

Plans for the store and property are not public at this time.
