Learning about a medication and its correct dosage with the least amount of negative side effects is hard enough, but when you factor in trying to keep track of an assortment of  mental and physical health medications, the process can be overwhelming, often leading some people to stop taking their medications altogether.

“Taking medications can be complicated, but stopping them on your own could lead to dangerous and life-threatening possibilities,” said Mary Jane Creely, APRN, of Newport Mental Health in a press releae. She along with other nurses and staff will be conducting a series of Wellness Workshops, with the first “Managing & Understanding My Medications” beginning Thursday May 2, 1:30-3 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center on  20 Dr Marcus Wheatland Blvd, in Newport, RI   All workshops are free provide participants with snacks and beverages.

“We’re happy to be hosting these Wellness Workshops. This is the type of programing that helps people better understand how mental and physical health are connected and that they are the essential parts of a person’s overall health,” said Melanie Saunders, Hunger Services Program Coordinator at the MLK Community Center in a press release.
