A West Warwick man was found in possession of multiple large capacity magazines, including one 31-round magazine, after he was stopped by Rhode Island State Police for an expired license.

Martin McLintock, 31, is facing charges for carrying a firearm in a vehicle without a license, possession of large capacity magazines, and possession of 10 grams or less of oxycodone, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Wednesday.

Neronha said that a state trooper, responding to a report of a stopped vehicle on Raccoon Hill Road on October 14, 2023, found that the vehicle’s license plate was expired and had been suspended due to lapses in insurance. The trooper proceeded to ask the driver, later identified as McLintock, for his license, registration, proof of insurance, and the reason for the stop.

The trooper reviewed the documentation and determined that McLintock’s license was also suspended. Following the towing of the vehicle, the trooper asked McLintock to exit the vehicle and advised him that an inventory search of his vehicle was going to be conducted. A backpack containing two semi-automatic handguns, eleven large capacity magazines, including four 31-round magazines and four 17-round magazines, and a prescription bottle containing oxycodone were found during a subsequent search of the vehicle.

McLintock is scheduled to return to court for arraignment on April 26, 2024.
