Gray Matter Marketing and the Newport Public Education Foundation continue their annual partnership on the Newport Night Run, an after-hours 5K run/walk to benefit the Foundation.

More than 1000 runners are registered for the April 7th race. The family-friendly 5K begins at 7:30 p.m., starts and finishes at Rogers High School and is open to both runners and walkers. This unique event is Newport’s only after-dark road race. A portion of every registration and 100% of the sponsorship proceeds benefit the NPEF.

“We look forward to hosting another great Newport Night Run with the Newport Public Education Foundation this year,” said Matthew Gray, president of Gray Matter Marketing in a prepared statement. “As a product of the Newport Public School system I am pleased to help give back and see this event continue to impact school children and teachers in Newport.”

“The board of the Newport Education Association is very excited about the Newport Night Run on Saturday night,” said Mary Ellen Atkins, President of the Newport Public Education Foundation in a prepared statement. “We are expecting a full field of runners and walkers to enjoy the night on Ocean Drive.”

The race course follows a loop from Rogers High School to Hazards Road, Ocean Avenue, Hammersmith Road, Beacon Hill Road and finally returning to Wickham Road for the finish. The 3.1-mile race will create minor delays in traffic on Ocean Avenue, from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Newport Police will manage traffic. Parking for participants, spectators and volunteers will be available in a limited capacity at Rogers High School.  Carpooling, cycling and walking to Rogers High is recommended.

Participants are encouraged to wear bright colors, reflective clothing and bring along headlamps and lights. Glow sticks, luminaries, and other fun on-course features will provide extra lighting. Registrants will receive a t-shirt with registration, as well as a bib with a timing chip.
