The Bit Players

We’re pleased to announce to our readers and supporters today that we’re kicking off a new series – “What’sUpNewp Live”, a new live music and concert experience.

Internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist Greg Abate will kick off the new “What’sUpNewp Live” series when he brings The Greg Abate Uptown Jazz Quintet to The Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant during Bridgefest on August 2nd at 7:30 pm.

The Greg Abate Uptown Jazz Quintet will feature Greg Abate, Phil Grenadier (trumpet), Matt DeChamplain (piano), Paul Del Nero (bass), and Luther Gray (drums).

A Grammy nominee, Abate was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2016. His recordings with the legendary multi-Grammy winner Phil Woods have won high praise, and Woods said of Abate: “I sleep a lot better knowing there are alto players like Greg! It was a joy to make music with him, and he writes good songs that are challenging.” Abate, a Berklee graduate, has played with the legendary Ray Charles and Artie Shaw.

Tickets are $15 in advance now through June 18 for Newport Playhouse subscribers and WhatsUpNewp Members. Not a What’sUpNewp Member yet? You can sign up now (it’s just $5 a month!) and still take advantage of this offer.
