What’sUpNewp is proud to announce that we’ve opened our new office on Spring Street in Newport.
Located at 418 Spring Street, the new office will be the home-base for our What’sUpNewp and What’sUpRhodeIsland sales and editorial team.
“The opening of our first brick-and-mortar street level office gives us the opportunity to engage with Newport, our readers and our advertisers in a whole new way,” said Ryan Belmore, Owner & Editor of What’sUpNewp and What’sUpRhodeIsland. “We’ve seen tremendous growth over the last 6 months – What’sUpNewp has seen traffic grow by 40%, we’ve added a second website, four new contributors have joined our team and we continue to grow our sales and business team”.
Earlier this year, Belmore made the decision to expand the brand and launched www.whatsuprhodeisland.com. “We’ve heard from readers for years that they’d love to see us do what we do in Newport across the entire state”, Belmore said. “While our statewide site won’t be as hyperlocal as Newport is, there’s certainly the opportunity to fill a portion of the big gap that’s out there where some things just aren’t being covered or talked about in the Ocean State.”
While the statewide website has had an early lifestyle, arts and entertainment focus, hard news and journalism are a priority for both of the sites. “In the past two months, we’ve officially added Frank Prosnitz, a former journalist at The Providence Journal and Providence Business News, as news editor,” Belmore said. “Growing the news team and journalism side of our business is absolutely one of our top priorities.”
What’sUpNewp has found the balance of catering to the needs of the millions of tourists that visit the City annually, with those needs of the 26,000 residents of Newport. Reaching people through their website, radio, podcasts, social media, e-mail, smartphone alerts and events – What’sUpNewp is touching more people in the community, and in more ways, than any other media outlet in the area.
“While media across the city, state, region and country continue to cut staffing and see their platform die, we’re excited to continue to grow, open an office and add talented and local people to our team”, Belmore said.
What’sUpNewp’s office will soon have signage and interns. In the meantime, if you see the lights on or the door open, stop in and say hello to the What’sUpNewp Crew (yes, when the lights are on at 4 am and 11 pm, we’re in there working). Of course, you can still always tip us off on story ideas, leads or ask questions by e-mailing us at Ryan@whatsupnewp.com or by calling 401-662-1653.
“2017 is shaping up to be a tremendous year for our team, we look forward to sharing other updates soon,” Belmore said. “None of this would be possible without the trust and loyalty of our readers, sponsors, advertisers and staff, thanks for your continued support and attention”.
