The Newport City Council will next meet on Wednesday, October 25th at 6:30 pm in the Council Chamber at Newport City Hall.

The meeting is open to the general public and there is an opportunity for the public to speak (on a topic not already on the agenda) at the beginning of the meeting.

Special Event Licenses

Seven special event licenses will be reviewed by City Council, including an application from RI ARts Foundation for the Classical Music Festival at Newport Art Museum, Mysteries of the night at Newport Elks Lodge, Halloween Party at Newport Elks Lodge, Potters of Newport County Holiday Sale, Lucy’s Hearth Designer Wreath Sale, St. Augustin Holiday Bazaar and Great Strides – A walk to support Cystic Fibrosis at Brenton Point State Park.

Holiday Selling License

Stella Mare is requesting a new holiday selling license for Stella Mare Lifestyle at 91 Long Wharf.

Communication

There are three communications – one from Newport Energy & Environment Commission, one from Jane Hence regarding her resignation from the Historic District Commission and one from Sharon Sullivan regarding her resignation from the Newport Hospitality commission.

The communication from Newport Energy & Environment Commission will provide Council with information regarding a water bottle filling station study.

Licenses & Permits

Newport Pedicab will renew their pedicab business license for 6 pedicabs.

A long list of non-liquor establishments and liquor establishments will be reviewed during 2017-2018 victualing license renewals.

Resolutions

Councilors Taylor, Florez and Leonard have sponsored a resolution that would bring recreation activities to Miantonomi Park.

If passed the resolution would request City Administration to explore the feasibility of constructing an outdoor basketball court and outdoor tennis courts in the Miantonmi Park neighborhood (updated to remove the words in or around Miantonmi Park), would request City Administration to explore federal and state grant funds to assist with recreation infrastructure needs and would request the City Administration to explore the feasibility of holding a summer camp program at the park starting in the summer of 2018.

Board Of License Commissioners

A daily liquor license will be reviewed for the Classical Music Concert at Newport Art Museum on October 27th, as well as 2017-2018 Liquor License Renewals.
