US Sailing will call Roger Williams University home beginning this fall.

US Sailing Moving Headquarters from Portsmouth to Roger Williams University Campus in Bristol

US Sailing, the national governing body for the sport, announced on Thursday that they will be moving their headquarters from Portsmouth to Roger Williams University in Bristol.

“We are excited to announce that US Sailing will relocate its headquarters on September 15, 2017, to the campus of Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island,” Jack Gierhart, CEO of US Sailing, in the announcement.

“The new office space provides us with the opportunity to drive innovation and creativity in our core areas of focus – access, education and competitive excellence. US Sailing will have access to a state-of-the-art sailing center, modern classrooms and meeting spaces, and additional online learning capabilities. The office is designed to support our new staff structure and provides a collaborative environment for improved efficiency, communication and member services,” Gierhart continued.

The US Sailing office in Portsmouth will close on Friday, September 15 and re-open at 8:30 am on Monday, September 18 at 1 Roger Williams University Way in Bristol.

“This move marks the culmination of a four-year project involving state officials, University leaders and partners, the US Sailing Board of Directors, staff and volunteers. It has been a pleasure for our team at US Sailing to work closely with our friends at RWU as we developed the plan and design for our new home, located just seven miles north of our current location in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. We thank the University and its leadership for welcoming us to their beautiful 140-acre waterfront campus,” Gierhart said.

US Sailing was originally organized as the North American Yacht Racing Union (NAYRU) on October 30, 1897. As the National Governing Body for the sport of sailing, US Sailing’s mission is to provide leadership for the sport of sailing in the United States. The organization works to achieve this mission through a wide range of programs and events, geared towards providing an equal level playing field for all sailors.

“We also thank the Hood family for their hospitality and support over the past 20 years as our organization grew and evolved in Portsmouth. We will be welcoming visitors to the new office in the fall of 2017 and hope to see you then,” Geirhart concluded.
