Caroline Rose Saturday
Vermont native Caroline Rose (pictured) is a country/rock singer-songwriter who has been building a fan base and gaining critical acclaim over the past few years. Her sound has been described as “fresh, fun and performed with contagious enthusiasm.” See what its all about Saturday night at the Ocean Mist in Narragansett. Emily Saliers Saturday
Emily Saliers, one half of the superduo Indigo Girls, brings her solo tour to the Met in Pawtucket Saturday night. Expect to hear a lot from her first solo album, Murmuration Nation, released this summer. Becky Warren opens around 9PM – details here.
Squeeze Saturday
Squeeze was pulling muscles from shells 35-40 years ago as they hit the top of the pop charts with tunes like “Tempted,” “Cool for Cats” and “Black Coffee in Bed.” Led by founding member Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, the band is back on the road and plays the Strand (formerly Lupo’s) Saturday night. Darlene Love Sunday
She put on quite a show last year at the Park Theatre and I highly recommend seeing the legend that is Darlene Love Sunday at the Greenwich Odeum. Perhaps most famous for her Christmas anthem “Christmas, Baby Please Come Home,” she’s also well known for her “Wall of Sound” work in the 1960’s. Hunger Down Saturday at Dusk
The holiday season can be a difficult time for many. Several area benefit shows are coming up and we’ll preview a few including Saturday’s Hunger Down show at Dusk in Providence. The RI Music Hall of Fame and Dusk are partnering to launch the “Hunger Down” program, which will be dedicated to intensifying efforts by the Rhode Island’s local music community to reduce hunger in Rhode Island. Performers include Mark Cutler, Michael Graham, Jeff Byrd, Stev DelMonico, and the Ghosts of Industry. Details here.
Rahim Alhaj
For a unique acoustic performance this weekend, head to Common Fence Music in Portsmouth where Rahim Alhaj will be performing. Alhaj is a master of the Oud, considered the ancestor of the lute and guitar. It’s a sound that has influenced every band from Led Zeppelin to the Beatles.
