Dom Flemmons at Harmony Lodge Thursday (Greenville)
Dom Flemmons is a leading interpreter of old time American music, which he presents with a modern twist. A founding member of the Caroline Chocolate Drops, the Grammy award winning multi-instrumentalist is in town Thursday at the Harmony Lodge on Greenville. Birds of Chicago at Narrows Friday (Fall River)
You know it’s a good day when the Narrows Center re-opens after a month of renovations. (At least it’s only been a month.) They’ve added more capacity but maintained the intimacy and warmth the venue is known for. Birds of Chicago, the husband wife team of JT Nero and Allison Russell will bring their “near perfect Americana” songs to town Friday. Details here.
Jenn Vix at Alchemy Saturday (Providence)
Newporter Jenn Vix is an electronic/modern rocker with a voice a lot that sounds a lot like Annie Lenox. Her debut album in 1994 was reviewed in Rolling Stone and she’s since worked with members of The Cure and The Psychedelic Furs. Runa at Blackstone River Theater Saturday (Cumberland)
One of the top contemporary Celtic groups in the world returns to Cumberland’s Blackstone River Theater Saturday night. RUNA Interweaves the haunting melodies and high-energy tunes of Ireland and Scotland with the lush harmonies and intoxicating rhythms of jazz, bluegrass, flamenco and blues. They recently released their fifth album, “RUNA: LIVE,” an album that is receiving praise on both sides of the Atlantic. Details and tickets here.
Lou Barlow at Galactic Friday (Warren) – CANCELLED due to illness
Lou Barlow is best known for his work with acclaimed indie bands Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh. He’s on an acoustic tour and is stopping by the Galactic Theater in Warren Friday night. Requests will be taken, stories will be told and Lou will be in the best setting to share the emotionally direct, melodic songs he’s known for. Details here – concert is sold out!
Benny’s at AS220 Sunday (Providence)
Who doesn’t already miss Benny’s? How many times in the past few months have you caught yourself thinking, “oh I’ll just pick it up at Benny’s, oh no, wait, no more Benny’s.” Well fret no more, as Benny’s the Musical premieres this weekend at AS220’s Empire Review.
