Gov’t Mule and Avett Brothers at Xfinity Center (Mansfield)

Rock and Roll will be front and center Saturday night at the Xfinity Center when the Warren Hayes led Gov’t Mule arrives in town with the Avett Brothers opening. Mule is likely to include covers and originals including several from their latest album Revolution Come Revolution Go, while Newport Folk favorites Avett Brothers will open with a full set of their high energy folk-rock. Local Show of the Week – Michelle Cruz Saturday at Askew (Providence)

Michelle Cruz plays a sweet blend of jazz and pop influenced by her a Cape Verdean roots. She’s played for “George Wein and Friends”, an event with the Founder of the Newport Jazz and Folk Festival and sang with the Grammy Award-winning Sweet Honey In the Rock. She was named “Best Jazz Female” at the New England Urban Music Awards and her first album was the “Album of the Year” for Motif Magazine. Sarah Potenza Saturday at Purple Cat (Chepachet)

Local girl made good Sarah Potenza is back in town this weekend for a gig Saturday night at the Purple Cat Winery and Brewery in Chepachet. Potenza gained national attention on the heels of her appearance on NBCs The Voice in 2016 and followed with her breakthrough album Monster. She’s recording a new one this Fall and will be on WADK 1540 Newport Friday to talk about her kickstarter campaign. Show details here.

“Newport to Nashville” Thursday at Newport Playhouse (Newport)

The “Newport to Nashville” series returns to the Newport Playhouse and Cabaret Thursday with three diverse acts presented “in the round.” Missy & Jeff, Kristi Martel, Ben Shaw are on tap this week at one of the best venues in the “City by the Sea.” These free shows ($10 drink and food minimum) are a great way to expose yourself to some artists you may not have heard before. Weezer and Pixies Tuesday at Xfinity Center (Mansfield)

The music continues at the Xfinity Center Tuesday will a pair of alternative bands that topped the charts in the last century.
