The Special Legislative Commission to Study Methods for Growing Tourism in the State of Rhode Island Through Coordinated Branding and Marketing Efforts, which is led by Representative Lauren Carson(D-Dist. 75, Newport),  will meet Friday at the State House for discussions about the tax impacts of short-term rentals.

The meeting is scheduled Friday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The commission will hear a presentation by Tax Administrator Neena Savage of the Rhode Island Department of Revenue Division of Taxation and Newport Finance Director Laura Sitrin on the tax issues facing the state and municipalities relative to short-term rentals posted on third-party platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway.

There will also be updates from the commission’s hotel tax, structures, and metrics subcommittees. No public testimony will be accepted at this meeting.
