Pierre Cardin has had to cancel his trip to Newport this weekend.
The legendary fashion designer was scheduled to host a fashion runway show at The Breakers on June 17, featuring 80 looks from his prolific career.
WWD was the first to report on Thursday that Cardin would miss the Newport Fashion Show – Pierre Cardin Bows Out of Newport Runway Show.
The Preservation Society of Newport County received the following statement from Cardin from Paris: “I regretfully inform you that I will not be able to travel to Newport due to a recent accident. Please forgive me and inform everyone involved of my unforeseen absence. Sadly, I will not have the pleasure to be with you to attend the show that I personally designed, from start to finish, for Newport. I wish you much success in this incredible enterprise, and the show must go on.”
“Even though he will not be with us in person on Saturday,” Trudy Coxe, Executive Director of the Preservation Society, told What’sUpNewp. “He will deliver a personal message from Paris to everyone in attendance. It is his express desire that ‘the show must go on.'”
Cardin created a one-of-a-kind runway experience featuring more than 80 looks from his career, which will be worn by some of New York’s top fashion models. M. Cardin’s Director of Haute Couture Maryse Gaspard and others of his inner circle are on hand to ensure a spectacular show.
Tickets for the runway show are limited, with reserved seat tickets for Row C costing $500 per person.
Following the runway show, guests are scheduled to enjoy a champagne reception on the loggia of The Breakers, including a birthday cake to celebrate Mr. Cardin’s imminent 95th birthday. Guests will also receive a commemorative program, and tickets to view the new Pierre Cardin exhibition at Rosecliff.
