The Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) was recognized by the Rhode Island OER recently at the Leading by Example Energy Awards ceremony at the Rhode Island State House. Katherine Trapani, Strategic Planning Manager of Quonset Development Corporation, attended the ceremony.

QDC received this accolade for energy projects in the Business Park, including the implementation of rooftop solar arrays on multiple buildings and the proposed development of additional solar projects. The Quonset Rooftop Solar Project involves the installation of 2.25 MW rooftop arrays on two buildings in the Business Park that will produce 2,920,815 kW hrs AC annually.

Upon completion, this project will provide 100% of electricity for the QDC offices along with other facilities in the Business Park, including the QDC main office and annex buildings, port operations office, water distribution system, wastewater collection and treatment system and streetlights within the Park.

The QDC initially leased the two rooftops to Energy Development Partners, LLC for the installation following total a roof replacement on both buildings completed in 2017. The implementation of the arrays is expected to be completed by June 2018 and expected to be fully operational by the end of July 2018.

OER’s Annual Leading by Example Awards Ceremony promotes clean energy implementation across the State in state government agencies, quasi-public agencies, public colleges and universities, and municipalities for their achievements in energy efficiency. Projects must be at least 50% completed to be considered. Institutions recognized  have made significant efforts in supporting and scaling clean energy measures that promote Lead by Example goals, as established by Governor Gina Raimondo in her December 2015 Executive Order.

“The Quonset Development Corporation is on track to be powered 100% by clean energy,” said Steven J. King, Managing Director of the Quonset Development Corporation. “We’re proud to be leading by example and grateful for Gov. Raimondo and the Office of Energy Resources for recognizing our efforts in energy conservation.”
