Portsmouth ‘Conservation Days’ scheduled for this weekend

Midtown Oyster Bar

In celebration of Earth Day, the Portsmouth Conservation Commission will host “Conservation Days” events the weekend of April 28-29.

On Saturday, April 28, there will be a Community Trash Cleanup and Fair at the Brown House at Glen Farm, Linden Lane, Portsmouth.

From 10 am to 12:30 pm, participants will pick up litter on the trails at Glen Farm (map will be provided) and bring their bags of trash back to the Brown House to exchange for a chance to win a $125 gift certificate to Rail Explorers rail bikes. People can also bring trash they’ve cleaned up in their own neighborhood if they don’t wish to walk the trails. There will be tables with information about local environmental efforts.

On Sunday, April 29, there will be an event focusing on climate change in Portsmouth from 1:30-3pm at the Portsmouth Public Library, 2658 East Main Road.

There will be presentations and discussion exploring the challenges of climate change for Portsmouth and the steps we can take to respond. Portsmouth resident John McDaid will present Al Gore’s Climate Reality slide show. Pam Rubinoff of URI Coastal Resources Center will discuss PREP-RI. Jennifer West of the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve will describe their work on Prudence Island. Gary Crosby, Portsmouth Town Planner, will discuss implications for the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. There will be open Q&A and discussion.

For further info, please contact Portsmouth Conservation Commission chair Conni Harding at (401) 862-4130.
