Podcast – What’sUpNewp Radio: Child Abuse Prevention Month, Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover

The topics on today’s edition of What’sUpNewp Radio ranged from Newport County YMCA’s Child Abuse Prevention Month, Healthy Kids Day, and Five Day of Action to the 2018 Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover.

Anne, Sophie, and Katie were among my guests from the Newport County YMCA, while Suma Plowden, Stopover Director, was my guest from the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover.

During April and all year long, Newport County YMCA encourages adults and organizations in the community to play a vital role in making Rhode Island a safer place for children. By encouraging adults to step up and speak out, we can bring awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse in our communities and foster conversations around how we can all work together to prevent it from happening.

Newport County YMCA is marking Child Abuse Prevention Month with Five Days of Action, April 16-20, 2018. Leading up to Healthy Kids Day®– a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids–Five Days of Action focuses on preventing child sexual abuse by sharing tips on how adults can step up and speak out to prevent child sexual abuse.

On April 21, 2018 Healthy Kids Day takes place at the Newport County YMCA from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM and features fun, active play and educational activities that are free and open to the community. This event motivates families to maintain healthy routines and inspires kids to keep their minds and bodies active all year. Healthy Kids Day is an opportunity to ignite children’s imaginations so that they can imagine what they’ll accomplish this summer.

Newport County YMCA and the YMCA Guardians for Child Protection, with support from YMCA of the USA, Darkness to Light, the Redwoods Group Foundation, and Praesidium have made materials available to help adults learn more about preventing child sexual abuse.
