People’s Credit Union recently donated $2,449 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The funds were raised through a combination of People’s Credit Union employee and member donations, bake sales at each branch location and a spring themed raffle held throughout the month of March in the Credit Union’s Portsmouth branch, which has been the top fundraiser for the past three years. This year Teresa Simmons, a teller in Portsmouth, hand painted glassware which was sold in the branch and helped to make this year’s donation a huge success. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission is to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

“Since 2006, People’s Credit Union has raised over $23,561 with this campaign and is helping LLS to achieve its mission to find a cure for the blood cancers, not someday, but today! The funds creatively raised help support local support groups and provide patient aid, as well as support local researchers finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. With the support of local business like People’s, a child who is diagnosed with a blood cancer today has an 85% of survival, compared to 4% in 1960,” stated Deborah Watterson, Student Series, Campaign Manager at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

People’s offers a complete range of services including online and mobile banking, savings and checking accounts, personal loans, mortgages, business accounts, business loans, and financial services. Headquartered in Rhode Island, People’s Credit Union is a member-owned, state chartered, federally insured, community credit union established in 1922. Membership is open to all individuals. Deposits are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government. For more information about People’s Credit Union visit peoplescu.com.
