People’s Credit Union has announced recipients of their 2017 8th Grade Scholarship. The three recipients are Myrsine McKeon of Newport, Zoe Pridgen-Binette of Portsmouth, and John Currey of Middletown. The scholarships were awarded based on school involvement, community involvement, and the answer to an essay question. Each of the scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 upon completion of their senior year of high school.
People’s Credit Union was also happy to award Matthew Carlone of Middletown with a scholarship from the Credit Unions of Rhode Island through the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA). Matthew was selected from hundreds of applicants submitted to credit unions throughout Rhode Island. Applicants were evaluated on a variety of criteria including students’ academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities, and an essay addressing the applicant’s intended field of study and career goals.
“This year, we are thrilled to offer scholarships helping local students pursue a college education,” said Ellen Ford, People’s Credit Union President & CEO. “All of the recipients are well deserving, and we wish them the best of luck as they continue into the next phase of their education.”
