Newport Restoration Foundation releases fall 2017 program schedule


This Fall, Newport Restoration Foundation will be hosting public programs at all three of their museum properties that tie in with the theme of landscapes and nature in the 2017 special exhibition Nature Tamed in the Landscape, Gardens and Collections of Rough Point.

Mark your calendars for these and other special events in September and October at Rough Point, Whitehorne House Museum and Prescott Farm:

THESE WALLS CAN TALK: CELEBRATING DORIS DUKE AS TASTEMAKER

A Design Week RI 2017 event

ROUGH POINT

September 14, 4:00 – 6:00 pm

Adults $10; 12 and under free

Design New England captured Doris Duke’s astute taste and style for a cover story this summer. Hear how the project came together, see examples of jewelry from designers featured in the article, and learn more about Duke’s collection of fine and decorative arts.

 

BEYOND THE TOUR: NATURE TAMED

ROUGH POINT

Adults $10; 12 and under free

It’s gardens galore on Wednesday evenings this fall. Drop in for special illuminated garden tours, sketching the collection activities, floral fashions, gallery talks, and much more! Garden tours depart at 5:30. This year’s exhibition, Nature Tamed in the Landscape, Gardens and Collections of Rough Point, will be available for viewing during this program.

 

ESTATE GARDENERS OF NEWPORT WALKING TOUR

Adults $20; $5 for children ages 5-12

Join Newport History Tours for a walking tour that explores the stories of the gardeners and landscapers, both past and present, who have worked at many of Newport’s finest homes.

 

RETHINKING WHITEHORNE: COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSES

Whether you’re growing lettuce or lupines, it’s important to know who to turn to for advice. The URI Master Gardeners are here to help. These events are weather dependent.

NEW FOR 2017: On the first Sunday of the month, the Master Gardeners speak on selected topics. The next (and final!) lecture on October 1 will focus on “Feeding your Family from a Colonial Garden”.
