Newport Art Museum’s summer gala raises more than $500,000

On Friday, July 20, 2018 the Newport Art Museum held its annual summer gala, the Artists’ Ball, the Museum’s largest fundraiser of the year. Over 400 guests danced the night away at the Newport Art Museum’s colorful event. Event co-chairs Anne Baker, Elizabeth Ann Kahane, Molly de Ramel and Steven Richter hosted the evening of art, fashion, dining and dancing. As a result of ticket sales, the live auction and generosity during the “Fund the Future” paddle raise, $500,630 was raised in support of the Museum. Funds raised from the gala allow the Museum to welcome 1,500 Museum members and over 18,000 visitors from around the world to enjoy its historic buildings, rotating and collection-based exhibitions, art classes, public programs, docent-led tours and special events.

“I’m most appreciative of the outstanding support demonstrated at the 2018 Artists’ Ball fundraiser for our Museum’s mission” said Norah Diedrich, Executive Director of the Newport Art Museum. “Naturally, there are many to thank for the success of an event of this magnitude, from our most generous guests and auction donors to our event co-chairs and Museum team – even the weather cooperated. Rest assured, the arts are alive and well in Newport.”

The Artists’ Ball, presented by Oscar de la Renta, featured guest artist Donald Robertson who adorned the Museum and its grounds with his signature bright colors and neon gaffer’s tape.

Auctioneer C. Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s presented seven exclusive live auction items and experiences, many of which were created in honor of the event and inspired by the Museum’s collection, from alice + olivia, Audemars Piguet, ISOUDE, Marc Allen Fine Clothiers, Moke America, Oscar de la Renta and Three Golden Apples.

“It was a banner year for the Museum’s annual Artists’ Ball,” said Steven Richter, event co-chair and Board President of the Newport Art Museum. “The evening’s success was a true testament to the dedication of my fellow co-chairs, art patrons and supporters of the Museum. The evening’s proceeds will go on to support arts programming, exhibitions, acquisitions, collections care and maintenance of our historic buildings – all vital to the Museum’s mission.”

Cultural and civic leaders, artists, designers, collectors, patrons of the arts, and other art world notables enjoyed cocktails, gourmet food stations, a live auction and dancing to music by Marjorie Gubelmann, known in the music world as DJ Mad Marj. Many guests embraced the Artists’ Ball’s pop art theme with colorful and art-inspired dress.

The Newport Art Museum Artists’ Ball 2018 was presented by Oscar de la Renta and supported by Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling Co., The Estée Lauder Companies, Bellevue Wine & Spirits, Studio Choo East, flyADVANCED, Guidbone Living, Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, Vanderbilt Grace, Sotheby’s, Lotuff Leather, Verdura.
