Local Church Examines & Challenges National Unrest


What happens when a local Christian Church decides to “show the love” to all of Newport County? The 2017 Year of Care is created.

After the November election and then the Presidential inauguration, local Christian church Evangelical Friends Church (EFC)Newport launched this new community outreach program teaming with five local non-profit support agencies: the Aquidneck Island Christian Academy, Young Life Newport County, Looking Upwards, Lucy’s Hearth and the Newport Housing Hotline.The EFC congregation will directly support each group during the year ahead.

“We are planning to invest both our time and our funds in 2017 to continue building deeper connections and relationships throughout Newport County,” said Pastor Paul Hoffman. “Our hope is that by working side-by-side with local agencies and support groups, we will continue to affect change in our small corner of the state.”

The Aquidneck Island Christian Academy will be the first beneficiary of the EFC Year of Care contributions. The only classical Christian school in Rhode Island, the AICA is now being led by new Headmaster Joshua White.“Over the course of two months each chosen group with receive our focus as we serve as best we can,” said Hoffman. “Representatives from the group will present information at ourSunday services and then we will mobilize and get to work

We are ready to paint walls, volunteer at events, provide transportation, entertain youngster, etc.”Individuals and groups outside of the EFC congregation are encouraged and welcome to join the effort.
