Fort Adams Trust Receives $12,500 Grant from 1772 Foundation

The 1772 Foundation Board of Directors has approved a grant award in the amount of $12,500 towards the Fort Adams Trust to make needed masonry repairs to the north wall casemate windows and to repoint the granite blocks that comprise the wall. Due to the harsh elements that the fort walls are exposed to, constant maintenance is required for the preservation of the fort.  The Trust will match the grant with $12,500 from the Trust’s Capital Funds to fully complete the project.

“The grant and matching funds will enable the fort to perform the necessary maintenance that is so needed,” stated Joe Dias, Executive Director for the Fort Adams Trust. “Given the size and complexity of the fort property the need for upkeep is a year round project and the kind grant of the 1772 Foundation will enable us to check-off the north wall refurbishment,” he added.

“We are extremely grateful for the 1772 Foundation’s board of directors’ decision to award the Trust the grant,” expressed Eric Offenberg, Vice President and Chair of the Architecture & Engineering Committee for the Fort Adams Trust. “It is because of generous organizations like the 1772 Foundation that historically significant places, such as Fort Adams, are preserved and maintained for the public good,” he further offered.

Based in Newport, RI on lower Thames Street, the 1772 Foundation works to ensure that the safe passage of historic buildings and farmland to future generations through financial assistance to help with preservation occurs.
