The Firehouse Building, located at 595 Thames Street in Newport, RI, which once operated as Firehouse Pizza may soon reopen as Firehouse 595.

Rui Reis, who owned Firehouse Pizza, hopes to renovate the building that was Firehouse Pizza until approximately 2012 and reopen the building as Firehouse 595 in the near future.

In a victualing license application, Reis states that Firehouse 595 would be a “Restaurant Fast Food”, would seat 80 and checked off that they possibly would be applying for a liquor license in the future. The Newport City Council will consider the victualing license at their meeting on September 9th.

*Editor’s Update: The victualing license was approved by Newport City Council on September 9th.

Several times between 1997 – 2012 (which is the all records made available at this time), Newport City Council records show that Firehouse Pizza attempted to obtain a liquor license from the Newport City Council, but none were available. Firehouse Pizza also unsuccessfully approached Newport City Council about changing their policy and increasing the number of liquor licenses available.

Update September 17th –

  • Firehouse 595 hopes to be renovated and open by May 1st, 2016.
  • The famous Firehouse pizza will be offered as well as other food that will be “fire” and “firehouse” inspired.

Stay tuned for further details…
