Extensions Dance Company, Salve Regina University’s select group of dancers, will be presenting their annual spring concert, “Here/Now,” with public performances March 1-3 at the Casino Theatre, 9 Freebody St.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3, with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m. General admission tickets ($15 general admission, $10 military and seniors) will be available at the door, or can be reserved in advance by contacting the box office at 401-341-2250 or by visiting tinyurl.com/salvecasino.
The performance, under the direction of Lindsay Guarino, assistant professor in the department of music, theatre and dance at Salve, is a collection of ideas, statements, emotions and stories told through the medium of dance. Choreographers created their works knowing that they will only exist “here/now” and, because dance is a living, breathing art form, cannot be replicated in the same exact way ever again.
The program will include a range of dynamic choreography from invited guest artists, faculty, and current students. Guests include New England-based Nailah Randall-Bellinger, Eva Marie Pacheco of Providence Ballet Theatre, Betsi Graves from Boston-based Urbanity Dance, Chicago-based Rhode Island native Richard Ashworth, and Spencer Gavin Hering and Andrea Dawn Shelley of iMEE Dance Company. Faculty members Lauren Difede, Melody Gamba, and Lindsay Guarino will premier new pieces. The works range from rhythm-generated jazz to contemporary ballet, and from classical modern to hip-hop.
Additional choreographers include students Haley Andrews, ’18 and Lauren Wyble, ’18. Solos will be performed by graduating seniors Haley Andrews and Marikate McConnell, and also by junior Marissa Masson.
