Early expansion meets new Montessori School demand

Early expansion at Sea Rose Montessori Co-op School will bring a new, larger classroom space in Fall 2018.

Sea Rose Montessori opened in September 2017 providing a unique learning experience for students starting at age 4.5. This parent-led co-op school offers year-round and extended-day programming.

Sea Rose reached maximum capacity in their current space as new families joined this year.

“We were already looking for a larger space, thinking we would move in fall 2019,” Board President Suzanne McDonald said. “Since the additional spots were spoken for a year in advance, we accelerated our original plan and are thrilled St. Mary’s supports the expansion into the thrift store space, to open in fall 2018.”

Their new classroom will support the large influx of parents and students that are attracted to the unique educational experience Sea Rose Montessori offers families on Aquidneck Island and beyond. The additional space enables a Lower Elementary program to start that will serve children through age 9. Students do not have to have any prior Montessori experience to be accepted since Sea Rose will offer an immersion program.

“Most students start Montessori programs at preschool age. Sea Rose starts at age 4.5 and enrolls year-round. As soon as a child turns 4.5, we can accept him or her,” McDonald said. “We have several families starting this fall, for whom their original school choice isn’t working out.”
