The Vets + FirstWorks
Veterans Memorial Auditorium continues its string of great concerts this season with everything from rock to classic jazz. Buy tickets early for a special FirstWorks event February 22nd “Rhapsody: The Gershwin Songbook.” Led by vocalist Michael Andrew, hailed as “the next Harry Connick Jr.” by The New York Post, the 17-piece Gershwin Big Band brings Gershwin standards like “I Got Rhythm,” and “Someone to Watch O’er Me” to life in a new program produced and created by members of the Gershwin family.

PPAC’s season is in full swing. In addition to great theatre, music is front and center this season. The RI Festival Ballet has The Nutcracker on December 15th and 17th and December 20th brings the popular WGBH Christmas Celtic Sojourn to Providence. On Cyber Monday, November 27, all ticketing purchasing fees are waived at ppacri.org and thevetsri.com (see below). On Saturday, December 2, it’s the annual holiday sale – save 25% on selected seating and performances for many upcoming shows at PPAC and The VETS. For further details, click here.
The Park Theatre in Cranston has the best Christmas themed line-up in the state featuring several unique holiday shows. Rock your holidays with Melissa Ethridge’s “Merry Christmas Baby” show (December 2) or go classical with Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker” (December 3rd). Fans of Irish dance won’t want to miss “Carol of the King,” (December 4th) led by former lead dancer from Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance Justin Boros. Details on all Park Theatre shows here.
Rock and Roll is always in focus at the Greenwich Odeum in East Greenwich. Shows this holiday season include Hot Tuna (December 2nd), Blood, Sweat and Tears (December 10th) and top tribute band Through the Doors on December 16. Future highlights include sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer on February 9th and Al Stewart performing the complete Year of the Cat album February 10th. Narrows Center for the Arts
There’s a Cyber Monday $5 discount today at the Narrows Center for the Arts for all shows in December and January. The “amazing as always” line up for the next two months includes shows with Los Lobos, Amy Helm and Marty Stuart. Newport Folk and Jazz
As we reported last week, tickets to the Newport Folk Festival go on sale this Wednesday November 29 at 10AM. Be warned – they are expected to sell out fast.
