Cluny School To Hold Closing Celebrations on June 22nd and 30th

Cluny School will hold two events in June to celebrate 60 years of Catholic education in Newport and to commemorate the school’s closing at the end of the academic year.

 

A wine tasting event, Toasting Cluny ~ 60 Years will take place on 22 June and a Mass of Thanksgiving and Reception will be held on 30 June.

 

Founded in 1957 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, Cluny School has served students in pre-school through grade 8, educating the whole person by empowering students to live lives of integrity based on Gospel values.

 

Toasting Cluny ~ 60 years

 

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny and the Cluny School Board of Directors invite the public to a wine tasting party, Toasting Cluny ~ 60 Years to be held at the Audrain Automobile Museum on Thursday, 22 Junefrom 6-9pm.

 

This inspired evening will include a sampling of summer wines from around the world, selected by Bob Burke, Proprietor of Pot au Feu in Providence; scrumptious food prepared by Terence Feury, Executive Chef at 41 North/Christie’s in Newport; tours of the automobile exhibition with Audrain Museum guides, and a stunning silent auction.

 

Proceeds from this special fundraising event will assist Cluny School in meeting its financial obligations through summer 2017, when the school will permanently close.

 

Tickets are $75 per person, and can be purchased by calling the Provincial office at 401-846-4826, ext. 20 or by sending a check made payable to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, Provincial Office, 7 Restmere Terrace, Middletown, RI 02842.

60 Years Mass of Thanksgiving and Reception

On Friday, 30 June at 6pm, Cluny families, alumni, friends, supporters and benefactors will gather for a mass of thanksgiving and reception on the grounds of the school. Reverend Kris von Maluski, Pastor of St. Mary’s and St. Augustin churches, will offer mass in celebration of the 60 year mission of the school and its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny.

 

The celebration will include the presentation of a proclamation on behalf of the City of Newport by the Mayor Henry F. Winthrop, and the reading of a letter from Bishop Thomas J. Tobin by Daniel J. Ferris, Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Providence.

 

The program will include remarks by Sr. Luke Parker, SJC, Provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, Province of USA and Canada, and distinguished alumni.

 

The evening will conclude with a reception of light fare and access to the halls of Cluny School, where memorabilia will be displayed, some of which will be for sale. The event is free and open to the public.
