City Council will host workshop to discuss National Sailing Hall of Fame move to Newport

Newport City Council will host a workshop on October 18th to discuss the possibility of the National Sailing Hall of Fame moving to Newport.

A Facebook Event, Newport City Council, Sailing Hall of Fame to Newport – Workshop, hosted by Latitude Yacht Brokerage, LLC states;

Come show support for the sailing industry as the Newport City Council opens a workshop to discuss the National Sailing Hall of Fame possiblity of being moved to Newport, RI and take over the Newport Armory on Thames Street

The workshop is scheduled for October 18th from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at City Hall.

The National Sailing Hall of Fame, headquartered in Annapolis, Md., recently hosted the National Sailing Hall of Fame Induction on September 24th when eight (five living and three posthumous) Inductees were celebrated for their impact on the sport.

Latitude Yacht Brokerage, which is located and specializes in the brokerage of pre-owned cruising, racing, and offshore sailing yachts as well as downeast and cruising motor yachts, posted the following on their Facebook Page on an event they were hosting for the workshop on September 27th;

The Rhode Island Marine Trade Association was drumming up support for the workshop on their Facebook Page on October 3rd;

 

Back on August 18th, the National Sailing Hall Of Fame announced that while they had been in talks with Newport – that they were working with the city of Annapolis to stay there;

 

According to their website, The National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to preserving the history of the sport and its impact on American culture; honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of sailing; the teaching of math, science and American history; inspiring and encouraging sailing development; and providing an international landmark for sailing enthusiasts.  The NSHOF is partnered with US SAILING and the U.S. Naval Academy, nd is associated with the Herreshoff Marine Museum, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and yacht clubs throughout the country in its efforts to recognize role models of outstanding achievement.
