Update: The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has announced that due to forecasted inclement weather, tonight’s ‘Bioluminescence Night’ at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown has been rescheduled to Tuesday, August 21. The event will include an outdoor viewing of the Disney movie, Moana, stargazing, and illumination jelly fish and local sea creatures.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has announced that they will be hosting a ‘Bioluminescence Night’ at Beavertail State Park, in Jamestown on August 14th. The event will include an outdoor viewing of the Disney movie, Moana, stargazing, and illumination jellyfish and local sea creatures.
“Bioluminescence Night is a wonderful way for families to get outdoors and enjoy a relaxing evening together at one of Rhode Island’s most scenic state parks,” said DEM Director Janet Coit in a press release received by What’sUpNewp on Thursday. “We are excited to welcome folks to enjoy nature at Beavertail State Park and appreciate the marvels of the skies and life in the seas as part of this event. I hope Rhode Islanders will come out to Jamestown next week and join us for this summer program under the stars.”
Beavertail State Park offers some of the most beautiful vistas along the New England coastline and is a popular destination for sightseeing, saltwater fishing, hiking, and marine education. The RI Park Naturalist program runs the Beavertail Aquarium, which is housed in what was the foghorn house for the Beavertail Lighthouse. The tanks in the aquarium are set up to imitate the environment of the Jamestown shoreline. From crabs to fish and shellfish, there’s always something new to discover at the aquarium. Staff collect samples of marine life for the aquarium and return them to their natural habitat after a couple of weeks. They also facilitate tidal pool explorations along the shore at low tide, and host special events such as Bioluminescence Night.
The Beavertail Aquarium is open starting August 15 to early November, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. For more information follow the aquarium on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BeavertailAquarium.
