newportFILM announced today that its 6th Friend-Raiser that was held at Christie’s on Saturday, March 2nd raised more than $35,000 for the nonprofit.

With a theme of Hot In Havana, party-goers donned floral dresses, linen shirts, and fedoras while sipping on specialty cocktails and Cuban inspired light-bites by Forty 1 North. Libations were also provided by Revival Brewing Company, Fisher’s Island Lemonade, Whalers, Sacred Hill Wine, Keel Vodka, Seaport Shines, Prairie Vodka, RonDiaz Rum, Astoria Wines, Chateau Souverain, LaMarca Prosecco, Yes Way Rosé, Le Grand Courtage.

We love hosting this party in Newport, for the Newport community, the people who really help us thrive. The funds we raised will support our year-round documentary film program, including our education programming reaching Newport county students and our free outdoor summer screenings.” –Becca Bertrand, Executive Director of newportFILM.

A special salsa dancing performance kicked off the evening by the Boston Dancers Natalie & Emilio and the Trailer Park Girls leading guests to dance the night away. The event space was completely transformed to help people forget the snow and get Hot in Havana!  Cuban-style street art and photography lined the walls of the lounge by local artists such as James Langston, Bowler Lane Projects, Peter Dickison & art students of the East Bay Metropolitan School, Clint Clemens Photography and Erin Briskie. A rustic cigar shop was also set-up with Havana Cigar Club selling premium cigars to patrons.

High-valued prizes were also raffled off, including a Castle Hill Inn Getaway for 2, a luxury shopping package from What Goes Around Comes Around NYC & Tom Ford, as well as Spa & Wellness, Dining, and Shopping gift cards and items from local Aquidneck Island businesses, helping newportFILM exceed its’ fundraising goal for the event.
