Newport, RI – Christmas trees, boats and lighthouses across the City-By-The-Sea are about to light up and fill the Newport air with holiday cheer.

Here are several scheduled holiday lighting celebrations to put on your calendar;

21st Annual Newport Harbor Illuminated Boat Parade

Friday, November 23rd at 6:15 pm

Newport Harbor Illuminated Boat Parade

Spectators can view this highly anticipated dazzling display of nautical holiday spirit along Newport Harbor’s waterfront from the Newport Yacht Club (open to the public for the event), Perrotti Park, Bowen’s Wharf, Bannister’s Wharf, and points around Newport Harbor.

Viewing of the parade is free of charge, making this a great family event to get into the spirit of the holiday season.  At 6 p.m., parade boats will rendezvous just south of the Goat Island Causeway and then proceed east leaving Newport Yacht Club. Boats will then travel south along the downtown waterfront and then return to the Goat Island Causeway area.

Courtyard on Thames’ Fourth Annual Tree Lighting

Saturday, November 24th from 4 pm to 8 pm

Join the businesses in Courtyard on Thames on Small Business Saturday for their fourth annual tree lighting, kicking off the shopping season!! They’ll have treats, hot mulled cider, and other beverages to keep you warm, and as always the shops will be open for shopping. More Info

Lighting Of The Lighthouse

Washington Square Tree Lighting, Official Opening Ceremony of Christmas In Newport

Saturday, December 1st at 5 pm

This event serves as the official opening of the 48th Annual Christmas in Newport. The night will feature a proclamation from the Mayor, tree lighting, Newport Artillery cannon salute and live entertainment. Free. More Info

Bowen’s Wharf 48th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Saturday, December 1st beginning at 4:30 pm

Bowen’s Wharf invites you to bring the whole family to their 47th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, where you will see Frosty the Snowman, Santa, and Mrs. Claus for an evening of Christmas cheer! Make a day of it and check off that holiday gift list at our retail shops! Festivities begin at 4:30 pm with Frosty the Snowman! The Christmas Carol Sing-a-long begins at 5 pm, the Mayor lights the tree at 6 pm immediately followed by Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving by boat (weather permitting).  Restaurants & shops are open before and after the event.

Boys Town New England would like to thank you the community for their support and generosity this holiday season. They invite you to join them for their Annual Campus Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 6th at 5:30 pm. Their staff and youth will be on site ready to discuss Boys Town New England’s programs and answer any questions you may have. Light refreshments will be available for all and make sure you get those singing voices ready for some Christmas caroling!

Admission is free. Donations of wrapping paper, kid’s toys (new and in packaging please), winter coats/boots/hats/etc. in kid’s sizes (tags on please), diapers (sizes 2-5) & gift cards (gas, kid-friendly activities, and stores) are welcome! More Info

Join the Broadway Merchant’s Association as they ring in the festive season with the 3rd Annual Broadway Holiday Walk-About on Sunday, December 9th from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Carolers, jingle bikes & more will help get you in the spirit all while strolling along Broadway and enjoying the local restaurants & merchants.

There will be local & regional makers and merchants lining the sidewalk from Corner Cafe to Farewell for your shopping pleasure! All will culminate with the Newport City Hall Tree Lighting that will happen at 4:00 pm! More Info
