Christmas In Newport Events

Official Opening of Christmas in Newport, 5:00 p.m., Washington Sq. Features proclamation from the Mayor, tree lighting, Newport Artillery cannon salute, music by the Newport Public Schools music program. Free. 849-6454. www.christmasinnewport.org

Newport Historical Society Discover Colonial Newport Walking Tour, 10:30 a.m.. Departing from the Museum at Brick Market, 127 Thames St. $15 adults, $10 for NHS members and active duty military with ID, $5 children ages 5-12. Reservations required. Weather permitting. 841-8770. Santa’s Workshop Sponsored by the Newport Recreation Department and the Newport Rotary Club, Noon to 3:00 p.m., Easton’s Beach Rotunda Ballroom and Carousel, Memorial Blvd. Includes goody bag, crafts, cookie decorating, a ride on the carousel, and a visit with Santa. $5 per child. Newport Historical Society’s Holiday Open House, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Newport Colony House at the top of Washington Sq.  Tour the Newport Colony House before the Christmas in Newport Official Opening Ceremony and enjoy the sounds of 18th-century caroling performed by costumed interpreters from the Second Massachusetts Regiment. 18th Annual Lucy’s Hearth Designer Wreath Sale, 9-12 p.m., Rotunda at Easton’s Beach. Christmas wreaths and tabletop decorations created by designers, artists, gardeners and florists from the community. Also, gourmet sweets bake sale. All proceeds go to Lucy’s Hearth.

Touro Synagogue 255th Anniversary Open House, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, 72 Touro St. Join us for an open house to celebrate the 255th anniversary of the dedication of Touro Synagogue. On December 2nd, 1763 Touro Synagogue opened it’s doors to the community and we are doing it again on December 2nd, 2018. See the magnificent interior of the synagogue, explore the exhibits at our visitors center and enjoy cookies and cider on the patio. This event is free and open to the public.
